All year long children’s librarian Sharon Moody works with students of all ages to ensure they are getting all they can and need from the library. From meeting monthly with teenagers to helping parents and kids find the right book to putting on family-friendly programming the library can be an invaluable resource for young adults grade school students and parents. Check out the photo gallery (at right) to see the fun had at the library’s special summer reading event on Tuesday. The Toe Jam Puppet Band delighted the sold out audience. Each summer the library — and libraries across the state — put on a themed and goal-oriented summer reading program. At the Paul Pratt Memorial Library elementary students finishing kindergarten through fifth grade are encouraged to sign up at the library or online then keep track of the titles and number of minutes they read each day. Any book read — story time for a younger sibling chapter books books on CD — counts toward daily reading time.

In an exclusive viewing room at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden that had been cleared of excited crowds for the brief shoot sat the Sumatran plant which consists of a single leaf that can be 10 feet across and a phallic flowering structure that can rise 10 feet high. While botanists held pieces of cardboard up to the windows to block harsh rays of light seeping in Singer instructed his assistant to hold up a black cloth backdrop. He snapped one picture.
