China mobilizes to save lives & rebuild
Workers World – May 21, 2008
VicePresident Dick Cheney took four days to come back from his vacation even as ahorrified world watched the tragedy unfold hour by hour. Photos of the troops dispatched to New Orleans show them patrolling the cityarmed with assault rifles and handguns to stop“looters”—often just people seeking food and water after dayswithout services. In the many pictures showing the disaster in China to be found at Yahoo’sphoto gallery taken by a wide variety of sources none of the soldiers orother rescue workers is armed. One photo from China shows a rescue worker planting China’s red flag atopa heap of rubble as his exhausted comrades sit below. It is a reminder thatdespite the inroads of capitalism in their market economy millions of Chinesefeel united behind a cause—the betterment of all their people—thatinspired a socialist revolution in their country just two generations ago. As a time of great trial for the world draws nearer with the consequences ofglobal warming it is just this spirit of collective action that will be neededeverywhere. LezTalk: Lovers Lovers Everywhere
Gay Wired – May 21, 2008
My straight male co-worker who carefully follows the plotlines of The L Word lamented that Bette and Tina fell victim to this pattern although he was heartened when they eventually reconciled. But the reality is many of us do not get back together and we feel doomed to a life of lesbian serial monogamy. I wondered if Yahoo! News intentionally composed a photo essay on lesbian recycling when they posted a photo gallery of Ellen Degeneres once after a slew of Emmy wins. As I clicked on ?next? I was led from snapshots of Ellen snuggling current squeeze Portia de Rossi to an identical pose with Alexandra Hedison to yet another with Anne Heche. Clearly celebrity had not exempted Ellen from the lesbian recycling syndrome. Thinking about exes reminded me of the lesbian rock musical The Break Up Notebook adapted from playwright Patricia Cotter?s hilarious poignant play about the emotional aftermath of a lesbian divorce. Watching the play a few years ago it struck a cord with me as I watched the leads act out the histrionics heartache and recovery following the two-and-a-half-year life cycle of a lesbian relationship.

R. Kelly Prosecutor: Jurors Must Watch Child Perform Sex Acts
FOXNews – May 21, 2008
Their eyes fixed on a 4-by-4-foot monitor just outside the jury box. In the courtroom the lights were dimmed and blinds drawn across windows. There were several other monitors in the room including one facing the crowded gallery. A grim intent Kelly watched the whole video on a small monitor placed on the defense table only occasionally averting his eyes. At times the 41-year-old rocked in his chair or rested his chin in his hand. Before putting the tape into a videocassette player a prosecutor walked across the stately courtroom held it out for the defense team to see and entered it into the record as “People’s Exhibit No… ” He also said the FBI which compiled a report on the tape could not identify the man in it as Kelly. Adam did make it clear what he wanted jurors doing when they watched videotape: Looking for a mole on the man’s back. The defense displayed a photo of Kelly’s back with a mole smaller than the size of a dime. Adam said jurors wouldn’t find the mole on the back of the man in the videotape. “There is no mole on his back” Adam said. “Robert isn’t that man on the tape. Adam also told jurors the female that prosecutors claim is depicted on the video “is not a victim because she is not the girl on that tape.
