article-tools –> May 26 2008 01:40pm. content-row clearfloat –> THE controversy over an exhibition of photographs of naked young teens has spread to country NSW with another gallery taking down works by Bill Henson. Police raided a gallery at Paddington in Sydney last Thursday closing down an exhibition of Henson’s works just before it was due to open… It is an interesting debate and there certainly have to be clear boundaries about what and what isn't acceptable otherwise the wrong people will take advantage of the blurred boundaries. It does depend on the exact nature of the "work" whatever it might be but once things like this generate hype then there is always a danger that there will be "knee-jerk" over-reaction and everything will be tarred with the same brush. Just to be on the safe side I think I'll burn the photo of myself in the bath as a kid that I found when looking through old family photo albums on the weekend so there's no chance my parents will have to spend their retirement behind bars. Posted by: Factorz of Adelaide 5:59pm May 26 2008 An interesting debate. Akin to book burning in a way. If it's art do we have the right to destroy it? If it's child abuse conducted over many many years why haven't the victims come forth instead one appears to be happy to have their's on show in an Albury art gallery? Further the Albury art gallery and council can't work out if their pictures are art or porn under the laws. From their perspective it was art for many many years.

As about 200 startled guests looked on Ruth Kalb — generally known as Ruth Vered after her gallery's name — was arrested on a charge of selling alcohol without a liquor license. “I told them I've been doing this since before they were born” said Vered 67 whose gallery has been a fixture of the Hamptons art scene for more than 30 years. “They have some nerve. ” She said the wine and Champagne were free.

From newspapers to museum exhibitions to textbooks Riboud has produced some of the most iconic photographs of the last six decades. In a perfect convergence of France and China the Paris Beijing Photo Gallery opened their new space with an exhibition of Marc Riboud in China. Riboud first traveled to China in 157 and he has returned each decade since. Curated by Riboud and gallery directors Romain Degoul and Flore Sassigneux the exhibition creates a visual narrative of China’s changes and growth over the past half century. Riboud’s camera has captured the proletariat masses Mao and post-Liberation culture as well as China’s fast-paced capitalism. “When we opened the gallery one of our main goals was to exhibit photojournalists who had worked in China” says gallery manager Perrine Pautre “Who better to represent this than Marc Riboud?”Riboud has come across troubles photographing Communist China both in the past and today.
