HP even includes a tool to address reflections from your pet’s eyes but I didn’t have much luck correcting flash photos of my two cats. I took a whole bunch of shots but only once did the tool change the appearance of a single eye–and that result looked very unrealistic. The R937 also lets you assign keyword tags to your photos which helps you organize your images in the included HP Photosmart Software in Windows Vista’s Photo Gallery or in iPhoto on a Mac. A virtual keyboard pops up on the screen when you want to enter new tags. In PC World Test Center tests images looked bright and colorful; the scores for sharpness and distortion however were roughly average. My own photos looked stunning with strong contrast and vivid (though slightly unnatural) colors. The R937 uses a single USB port for both downloading images and charging the lithium ion battery… At 261 shots on a single charge battery life was a bit above average surprising considering the large size and brightness of the LCD. The iPhone has made big color touch screens fashionable. But with its ease of use and good image quality the HP Photosmart R937 may be the coolest touch-screen toy to carry. Called help line re-loaded SW got updates of SW tried to retrieve pics using Windows picture manager and Adobe Photoshop as well as just the USB drive function. Finally camera just will not turn on at all.

Created from a paper negative the calotype photograph represented a cutting-edge innovation to 19th century consumers particularly in Britain. But like many popular trends the calotype image enjoyed only a short albeit brilliant run. The calotype and its brief yet fruitful history provide the focus for a major exhibition here at the National Gallery of Art. “Impressed by Light: British Photographs from Paper Negatives 1840-1860” presents a unique overview of the photographic form through 120 vintage prints by 40 British photographers. Discovered by Scotsman William Henry Fox Talbot in 1840 the calotype proved a revolution in the then-nascent medium. Talbot’s initial attempts at calotype printing proved slow and laborious. But his technique improved once he found that exposing a sheet of chemically treated paper to an image visible on the back of a sliding box camera could create a negative image… He could then produce a positive image by placing this paper negative directly on paper coated with either light-sensitive silver salt or silver nitrate and albumen and exposing it to sunlight. In essence Talbot’s process had given birth to negative-positive photography. He borrowed the term for his new photo method from the Greek word for beautiful “kalos. ”rdinary scenery often served as the inspiration for early caloytype devotees.

It wasn't until an agent approached her four years ago that she realized “there were photographs scattered all over the place” at her home in England “lying around in boxes and drawers. ”A year later Boyd hosted her first exhibition in San Francisco. “I couldn't believe walking into the gallery and seeing the walls covered with images from my life from the last 20 years” she recalled. Though Boyd describes herself as “completely self-taught” she did study photography for three months after her marriage to Clapton ended and she is a member of the U. 's venerable Royal Photographic Society. She cites among her influences Bill Brandt Helmut Newton and Annie Liebowitz… ”She's also partial to a black-and-white concert photo of Harrison and Clapton jamming with Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett one night in Liverpool. It's a slightly grainy image but it boasts the passion and the proud imperfection of rock 'n' roll. When these photo exhibitions are over Boyd will reclaim her low profile. “My life is wonderful” she said. “I have fantastic friends.
