Google Android Prototype Live Photo Gallery

While the folks at the Texas Instruments stand weren’t talking other than to say that the device ran MAP processors word on the street is that these prototypes were manufactured by none other than HTC. The demo we received of the handsets showed the platform to still be a bit rough around the edges but the browser function on the large touchscreen enabled model did show some real promise. The browser was used to look at sites like CNN and the NY Times and we saw how a finger could be used to scroll around a page. Nothing earth-shattering to say the least but at least it worked.

The demo itself was running on a very generic looking tablet device attached to an emulator that was running on a PC since Nokia had no intention of showing us any future unannounced S60 Touch hardware. It is worth noting that the mouse pointer that you might notice in the video below is from the PC and is not going to be visible on actual S60 Touch handsets. From my perspective having reviewed a number of modern touch based devices the S60 Touch emulator still appears to show that there is a lot of work yet to be done at Nokia. The demo shows that basic on-screen controls can be used with a fingertip and that basic scrolling control and item selection work as well but the system was not particularly responsive and didn’t handle scrolling and browser panning tasks all that well in my opinion.

What’s your thoughts. This sounds like good PR to me (at least as long as your on schedule) and also will help us understand your problems if you run into major issues. Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: We agreed with your comments that it is difficult for the public to see what is happening and that is why we have the permanent cameras and the photo gallery. We have been and will continue to work with the media to do progress stories either on the ground or from the air. We will continue to work on this as much as the media is willing to cover it. Linda Wilson John Dickey: Talk about a solution being worse than the original problem. Will there be consideration given to reopening westbound Eager to go north on I-170? In the evening rush I see traffic congestion as westbound Eager tries to get to northbound Brentwood while southbound I-170 tries to get to southbound Brentwood.
