Leading up to the day the weather had been amazing for a couple of weeks with brilliant sunshine but then it all changed and suddenly a low pressure wave the size of Europe came in off the Atlantic and froze us all out giving us rain and cloud cover all day. It was clear we would have to make the most of what we had.
Masters of Horror: Valerie on the Stairs and We All Scream for Ice…

ne of the few things that hasn’t gone downhill in the Starz releases for Masters of Horror are the technical transfers and Valerie looks and sounds as good as most of the 2007 MH releases. Garris is typically charming on an audio commentary although it would have been nice to hear Barker’s take on the final product either in a co-commentary or on a separate track (although he does appear on a featurette). Also included on Valerie on the Stairs – “Spine Tingler: The Making of Valerie on the Stairs” “Jump Scare: Editing Valerie” a photo gallery and a screenplay on DVD-RM. The behind-the-scenes featurettes run about 20 minutes total and are interesting but not too memorable. We All Scream For Ice CreamTom Holland the man who gave the world Chucky and Fright Night brought We All Scream For Ice Cream to life at the end of last year and it certainly caused a bit of screaming but not in fear. My least favorite episode of either season Ice Cream has a decent premise – revenge of a supernatural clown (William Forsythe) on the group of men who killed him when they were kids. But it’s the leaden execution and a half-asleep performance from Lee Tergesen that drowns Ice Cream in a gooey mess.

HP even includes a tool to address reflections from your pet’s eyes but I didn’t have much luck correcting flash photos of my two cats. I took a whole bunch of shots but only once did the tool change the appearance of a single eye–and that result looked very unrealistic. The R937 also lets you assign keyword tags to your photos which helps you organize your images in the included HP Photosmart Software in Windows Vista’s Photo Gallery or in iPhoto on a Mac. A virtual keyboard pops up on the screen when you want to enter new tags. In PC World Test Center tests images looked bright and colorful; the scores for sharpness and distortion however were roughly average. My own photos looked stunning with strong contrast and vivid (though slightly unnatural) colors. The R937 uses a single USB port for both downloading images and charging the lithium ion battery… At 261 shots on a single charge battery life was a bit above average surprising considering the large size and brightness of the LCD. The iPhone has made big color touch screens fashionable.
