Thousands of people were on hand for the annual weekend event which featured hundreds of artists live music on three stages wines and microbrews kids’ activities and Italian street painting. But festival attendees were startled when a large tree fell onto the children’s street artist play area on Tasso Street near Lytton Avenue Sunday. A couple walking past the area was brushed by the tree’s branches but escaped with one person only receiving some scratches. The tree made a huge crash and initial witness reports indicated someone may have been seriously hurt or killed.

Tears streaked Heather Maroney’s face as she stared at what was left of her home Monday morning — the house that had been built by her husband’s grandparents. Maroney had just arrived at work when she learned her home was on fire. She quickly rushed home to see the blaze for herself. “We got out literally minutes before it went up” she mused focusing her gaze on the clouds of smoke protruding from the roof windows and doors. “It was a God thing” she said.
