Dylan WelchAugust 15 2007 – 1:31PM A mens’ magazine competition that is offering a free “boob job”to the winner has fallen foul of the federal communicationsauthority over the competition’s website photo gallery whichallows children to access restricted content. The federal involvement comes only a day after the StateGovernment announced it was investigating the “win a boob job foryour girlfriend” competition over whether it had breached a littleknown state law that forbade offering “cosmetic surgery as aprize”. This morning a spokeswoman for federal Communications MinisterHelen Coonan confirmed Zoo Weekly’s website had beenreported to the Australian Communications and Media Authority. “The minister certainly sees that this is an example of verypoor taste and to women it would also be considered to be veryoffensive and she has directed ACMA to look into the matter” aspokeswoman for Senator Coonan said. The federal attention comes after it was revealed that thecompetition gallery was running numerous photos of topless womendespite the explicit assurances of Zoo editor Paul Merrillthat the self-styled lads’ magazine would not allow topless photosof entrants… The federal attention comes after it was revealed that thecompetition gallery was running numerous photos of topless womendespite the explicit assurances of Zoo editor Paul Merrillthat the self-styled lads’ magazine would not allow topless photosof entrants. “We don’t show bare breasts in Zoo it’s all bikinis andlingerie so we’ll make that very clear on the website” he said onMonday. f concern to Senator Coonan was that the gallery was alsoaccessible to anyone who registered on the site – including peopleunder the age of 18. The Media Authority will now investigate the website contentand if it is found to be in breach the authority can take anumber of actions including issuing a “take down notice” whichwould require the website to remove the offending content. Yesterday a spokesman for NSW Gaming Minister Graham Westannounced that Zoo was being investigated by the NSW fficeof Charities for a potential breach of the Lotteries and Art UnionsAct which forbids anyone from offering cosmetic surgery as aprize. Merrill denied the competition was illegal and contradicted hisown advertising – which includes the line “we can help turn yourlady’s itty bitty titties into massive mounds of magnificence” – bysaying the competition was legal as the magazine was simplyoffering $10000 to the winner. “The winner will get a cheque for $10000.
